★★★★★ Review of Intense Foundation of Digital Photography – Level 1, Apr 2013
‘As a complete beginner, the Intense Foundation Level 1 course was the perfect introduction to photography. Jon was an excellent and very engaging teacher and the group size was spot on. I will put what I’ve learned into practice and then sign up for Level 2. Thanks to all at PCL for a great day.’

‘I found this course with PCL very informative well structured and flexible enough to adapt to the needs of the Group. The Staff and tutor at PCL are very welcoming and well informed. The course content was as described and I also like the set up and feel of teaching space. The content was informative and pitched at the right level. The tutor was also prepared with material to answer questions and the combination of theory and practice was also great being well balanced and managed.
Compared to other course I looked at the price was competitive. The small group size made a difference to the time the tutor was able to spend with each person. This was certainly a positive. With all of this and depth and variety of the courses being offered PCL will be the first port of call for my photographic study. I will be back very soon.’

‘The approach the instructor took was to understand why you are doing something and not just do it because thats the way we do it today…  While this means that you do cover some rudimentary material in the morning, when you begin to do more advanced work inn the afternoon the reason for the approach became very clear and helped to reinforce the understanding of the program and its abilities.
As for the instructor himself, Mikael was very knowledgeable, patient and easy to work with. I was particularly impressed by his working knowledge of various different version of PS and even elements. This meant that students with different versions could still benefit from the course and not cost a significant amount of time to the other students.
My only criticism is that I would have liked to cover more material and to have more practice. Glad I did the course and will come back for more.’

‘To do my camera the justice it deserves, I attended the PCL Intense foundation Level 1 course on 6 April 2013. My goal was to move away from Auto Mode and into the world of manual photography – confusing vocabulary and all. Having had a 1 hour crash ‘course’ on the functions on my camera I was aware that photography had the potential to boggle my mind, but I am happy to say that Jon Mortimer has a talent for photography and teaching that enabled me to grasp all the necessary steps to begin the manual photography journey. I enjoyed the relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere and was surprised by how quickly 7 odd hours flew by – with my brain remaining relatively unboggled! I would recommend this course for it’s ability to distill a world of information into the crucial information and steps to ensure a well-grounded approach to capturing moments and images.’

‘PCL is a such an amazing place to study photography! All the staff are great and very helpful at all times. I really did enjoy my course and I grabbed the opportunity I had with the high profile professional photographers to know more and more about this field. The learning environment is informal, it’s like to have a chat, very relaxing…
I am really glad to have met you guys “to (re)start” my PRO side.
Thanks very much for your support!’

‘I had my Nikon for a while and self tutoring clearly was not helping. I thought the best way to really get started was to go through an intensive course with someone who knows what they are talking about! The delivery of the course actually went beyond my expectations. There was a logical flow to the topics discussed making it very easy to follow and understand with immediate results from practicals. I definitely learned more about the camera then I imagined I would.’

‘I went and booked an intense one day course as had a great camera but have never really understood the basic fundamentals of photography and used my camera to its potential.
The course was simply fantastic and the tutor ( Adrian Wood ) really explained things in simple terms and made us put them to practice with relative ease.
Was a lot to take on board for one day but after making notes and working with my camera afterwards the results were brilliant and well worth the investment.’

★★★★★ Review of Lightroom Foundation, Mar 2013
‘I got a lot out of the course – I wasn’t sure what I expected really, as I have been pootling along with Lightroom for a couple of years, so had mastered some of it, but didn’t know what I was missing – turns out I was missing a lot!’
The most useful part was importing the images, and a better understanding about the way Lightroom treats the images, and using it to manage my photographs, as opposed to accidently creating more and more versions of bad shots. The most enjoyable bit was the developing element, especially manipulating black and white images.

‘The Intense Foundation Level 1 was exactly what I was looking for – a concise introduction to the basics of digital photography. All the staff I met on the day were very friendly, the classroom environment was relaxed and I felt comfortable asking questions. Mikael set out clear steps a ‘recipe’ for composing a number of different styles of photographs and I was surprised at how much I remembered when we headed out of the classroom to try our hand at a bit of street photography. I now have a clear understanding of exposure, depth of field and using shutter speed to capture or freeze movement. Basically a really good basis from which to go out and try to take some decent photographs with my expensive camera.’

The ‘street photography’ genre was altogether new to me and very exciting to discover. Luke is an incredibly energetic and generous teacher who really knows his craft. It was wonderful to have been tutored by such a high calibre of individual as well as professional. Learnt so much and enjoyed my day immensely!
Please convey my thanks to Luke.

‘Excellent course – I really wish I’d done this sooner! It covered all the fundamental functions of operating a camera such as metering, exposure and ISO, aperture and shutter speed etc. none of which I knew about before the course. The instructor made it easy to understand through clear explanations, examples of how photos can look with different techniques and getting us all to practice – it was also made fun too! The group was circa 10/12 people so it meant we were all able to ask questions and get individual feedback. I’d recommend this course to anyone who wants to get more out of their camera.’

★★★★★ Review of One to One tuition: Studio Lighting, Feb 2013
‘The one to one session was fantastic. An invaluable experience. Because it was one to one, the teacher could take a more personal interest in my needs and go more indepth. I learnt more than expected. I enjoyed taking photos using the studio lighting and the teacher teaching me how to extend my skills. Cleveland is a fantastic teacher. His teaching changed everything for me in a positive way.’

★★★★★ Review of DSLR Courses Level 1 & Level 2, Feb 2013
‘Have just completed my second course with PhotographyCourseLondon, the first being the beginner and now the intermediate. I cannot emphasise enough how good I have found these lessons. The tutors are very knowledgeable and endlessly patient, they cater for all levels and make sure all the students are on the ‘same page’ before moving on. I will most definitely be taking part in further courses in the future, but in the meantime I will be out there practicing all I’ve learnt so far. If you have an interest in photography whether it be complete novice/intermediate/pro they will be able to offer help to take the next steps. Plus they have tea and ginger snap biscuits. AWESOME!’

★★★★★ Review of One to One tuition: DSLR & Flash, Feb 2013
‘Fantastic – Jon was very patient and thorough and I was able to ask questions and progress at my own speed. My favourite part was the practical sections where we got to go out and put all we learnt into practice. It was also great to also learn about Jon’s expertise and ask questions…I enjoyed every part of the session and think it was very well planned. I found the service to very personal and the studio was well equipped and in the perfect location. I would like to thank Jon and Grace who made the experience very special. I found Jon to be a very inspiring tutor and have recommended the service to all my friends.’

★★★★★ Review of Photoshop Foundation – Level 2, January 2013
‘I had done an entry level Photoshop course before and I was looking for a more advanced course that could teach me how to follow a correct workflow. The course I took at Photography Course London was exactly what I was a looking for. Although the course last only one day, it was extremely well organised and a lot of concepts were covered. Everything was explained in a very clear way and it was very easy to follow. I would highly recommend this place for the quality of the teaching and the nice environment provided.’

★★★★★ Review of Photoshop Foundation – Level 1, Dec 2012
‘I attended a course on Thursday 13th December and I have already managed to edit a photo on my own. Before I had no idea what to adjust to get the contrast of a photo correct. The tutor was very easy to learn from, making sure he explained if we were not sure of something. I will definitely attend another’s course in the near future. Thanks’

★★★★★ Review of One to One DSLR tuition, Dec 2012
‘Took a one-to-one course after being asked to photograph an event for work. Had never really used most of the functions of a digital SLR before, but my tutor Jon was able to get me up to speed very quickly and give a very interesting overview of the basics.
Rather than just a nuts-and-bolts run through, he introduced each function of the camera with reference to its importance to the end product (the photo), and was great at mixing in the introductory aspects with slightly more advanced ideas about lighting, composition, etc., that left me ready to take quality, professional-looking photos whilst also having a lot to try out and build upon.
Previously, I had been mostly fixing my photography errors with Photoshop, but he not only showed me how to get my pictures looking much better to start off with, he even taught me a few new Photoshop tricks as well. It even inspired me to get my own digital SLR for personal use.
Can’t recommend this enough as a relative newbie, and I imagine the more advanced courses are equally rewarding.’

★★★★★ Review of Beginners Guide to Digital Photography – Level 1 & 2, Nov 2012
‘I took the Beginner’s Guide to Digital Photography Levels 1 (with Jon) and 2 (with Liane). The sessions in themselves were relaxed, with lots of room for questions from the students, yet rich in information and tips which I felt helped my photos improve significantly after each class. Level 1 covers all the basics and really helps you control what your picture is going to look like. Level 2 is a lot more hands on, integrating technique with composition – I especially enjoyed the last session which took place at the Barbican Center. As for the tutors, Jon is an amazingly patient teacher with a wealth of knowledge to share, and Liane’s enthusiasm for what she does is simply infectious! Overall very inspiring, and I will definitely sign up for another course very soon.’

★★★★★ Review of Intense Foundation of Digital Photography – Level 1, November 2012
‘I took the Intense Foundation Level 1 course for DSLR cameras. The course was excellent and I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to learn to start using their camera away from the standard “picture settings”. The setting was relaxed and fun, but really informative and I learned loads from the day. The course is great if you want to use your camera for occasional family outings or if you wish to start on the journey of pro photography. The tutor was great, who whilst keeping the atmosphere fun was able to use his huge photography experience to teach lots of material in the day – the highlight for me was standing at the Old Street roundabout photographing the traffic. If you take this course you really won’t be disappointed! I really enjoyed the day and I think the cost was nothing for the experience gained – I even booked myself on another course the week after.’

★★★★★ Review of Intense Foundation of Digital Photography – Level 1, Oct 2012
‘I chose the Intense Foundation Level 1 course to understand the fundamentals, the technology of my camera and to stop using the ‘AUTO Mode’! The course lasted 6 and half hours and covered all the need to know-how’s in taking that perfect picture. The class size was around 9 participants this made it feel more like a one-on-one personal session. The foundation was taught by Gary, a well experience photographer who covered each topic thoroughly. The session itself was about 70% practical and 30% theory with understandable handouts given; with a 40 minute session after lunch outside practising all the techniques I was taught this helped etched this shooting methodology. At the end of the session Gary covered any other questions we had and stayed behind for further help. What Photography Course London offers over its other competitors is you have the option to choose either a 1 day or 2 day course so if you’re on a budget it helps a lot. All-in-all very happy what I learnt and how the course was run. Will go to level 2 in the New Year!’

★★★★★ Review of Intense Foundation of Digital Photography – Level 1, Oct 2012
‘Although I have had an SLR for a few years now, I was self taught and often dissatisfied with the results. I signed up to the PCL Intense Foundation Level 1 course to solidify my understanding of the mechanics of photography, and dispel any mystery. The trainer (Gary John Norman, professional photographer by trade) covered the essentials (Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO, White Balance, Metering, and Focusing), and provided insightful explanations to our questions. As the name would suggest, the course is quite fast paced – each topic is covered in about 30-45min. On the whole, a great course and money well spent, thanks PCL!’

★★★★★ Review of Intro to Darkroom and Film Photography, Sep 2012
‘I took the Introduction to Darkroom and Film Photography course and really enjoyed it. It was great to have the opportunity to use medium format cameras, and to follow the process through from taking photographs to the production of prints. The course was nice and hands on, and I really enjoyed using the enlarger and playing around with different factors to produce different images. I would definitely recommend the course, to beginners and also to those with more experience.’

★★★★★ Review of One to One Lightroom tuition, Sep 2012
‘I had a 3 hour 1 to 1 session on Lightroom at Photography Course London with tutor Mikael Eliasson; The tuition was very focused and well done, in depth and yet easy to follow, and I felt comfortable about asking questions. It’s so nice after 3 hours to manage your way through a new program and way of working! The setting of the course was very nice and modern, and perfect to focus for a long time. I definitely recommend it.’

★★★★★ Review of Beginners Guide to Digital Photography – Level 1, Sep 2012
‘Fantastic. Pitched at just the right level. Good content. Correct balance of practical and theory work. The most enjoyable part was the practical assignments with the rest of the class (i.e. wandering around Old St taking photos!) and discussing homework assignments. Liane was brilliant. I can not rate her highly enough. She is clearly very enthusiastic about her work which motivates the class. The assistants were also very friendly and helpful.’

★★★★★ Camera Language – Level 1, Sep 2012
‘It was a great day out and the tutor Liane was great, easy to talk to and willing to help… it was a good overall course for what one can expect in a day. I also appreciated the post course handout notes to read over. Liane had also researched our cameras prior to the day and I found this great as she could point things out quickly.’
